Almost seven years ago, I needed a new receptionist. I interviewed half a dozen candidates, with many different skills and abilities from right out of school to years of work experience. The person I hired was a recent college graduate. I can’t say it was smooth sailing, because it wasn’t.
I took a chance on the young lady with stars in her eyes when I hired her. I was looking to the future, and I’m so glad I did.
I meet a lot of nice people. When I’m interviewing candidates for an entry- or mid-level position, a majority of the applicants would likely do a good job. The opportunity to interview me is a chance for you to demonstrate that you care about more than just the position. Any little bit of extra effort you exert may sway my decision your way.

If we had a crystal ball, life would be grand. But, because we don’t, we often find ourselves at the mercy of hindsight. Hindsight being 20/20, what is one setback you faced in your career that ended up being a blessing in disguise?
Career choices come in many shapes and forms. When posed the question, “Hindsight being 20/20, what setback in your career ended up being a blessing in disguise?” I knew instantly which period of my life I wanted to write about. I don’t think it was actually a setback, but a dead end. I believe many people face the same type of situation and simply remain stuck. Career choices come in many shapes and forms.
When you decide to take a stand on something, take into consideration what the person signing your paycheck wants. In most cases, you’ll find what you think you feel so strongly most likely doesn’t matter all that much compared to continuing to receive a paycheck.
I wonder how many others struggle with having a sense of purpose. I didn’t consciously think about this question until fairly recently, but I believe it’s been in the back of my mind for a very long time.
