Women of HR were asked, “If you were CEO for a day, what would (or did) you focus on to improve an organization’s productivity, employee engagement or ability to recruit?” This is the fifth post in the series of responses.
Wow! It is really fascinating to hear people call me a CEO of my company even if it is for a day! Let me make this a 12 hour work day from 7.a.m to 7.p.m. (only for me, employees can come in at normal office hours) Is this necessary? Yes of course, for me, as I am getting one shot at this and I need to maximize my work day to make a few hard decisions and to inspire everyone communicating why we do things the way we do!
Imagine (which may not be too hard) that as a result of your team’s hard work and commitment, you reach a pivotal point – a point at which the future of your business could change for the better. Now you are faced with the challenge of making important decisions, creating innovative plans and taking action. The most critical of these steps is the initial decisions you make, and I’m here to let you in on a secret to success – use your vision, 3-D vision, that is! This 3-D experience is defined by three essential elements: Discuss, Debate and Decide.
It’s very, very easy to see having too much to do in too little time as a source of stress. Believe me, I know. But constraints can also be a source of inspiration, creativity and amazing performance. Not having enough time can be a gift. It forces you to find a way to do your most important work first.
